Eminent folk singer Chandana Majumdar moved the houseful audience by presenting some evergreen traditional numbers on Saturday at the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre in Gulshan.
The melody of her high-pitched voice modulation could successfully transport the underlying love for God in the devotional songs composed by legendary bards like Fakir Lalon Shah, Radharamon, Bijoy Sarkar and others.
The show began with the devotional number Guru amare ki rakhben korey chorono dasi. The skilled singer with her soulful presentation, supported by the acoustics of traditional instruments such as dotara and bansi, created a mystic ambiance at the auditorium.
The urban audience present at the show was mesmarised by the brilliant singer’s presentation of other devotional numbers like Kobey sadhur chorondhuli lagbe mor gay, Amar bondhu doyamoy tomare dekhibar money loy, Dorodia bondhu dorodia re, Amar pran bondhuar deshe re and others.
The audience also got the real flavour of the devotional kirtan as she presented songs such as Keno go rai kanditechho pagolini hoiya and Ar amare maris ne ma.
The one and half hours show ended with presentation of a popular playback number of the film Manpura titled Jao pakhi bolo tarey for which Chandana Majumdar won the national film award in 2009.
The satisfied audience at the show left the auditorium humming Jao pakhi bolo tarey, which had been a rage amongst the Bangla music lovers of Bangladesh and the world.
Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre in association with the State Bank of India organised the programme.
