Women’s chess team were the only bright spot for Bangladesh as the mediocre performance by the athletes continued in the Asian Games which passed the eighth day on Saturday.
In the chess team events in Guangzhou, China, Bangladesh women’s team outshone the men’s team as they beat Turkmenistan, but the men’s team were defeated by the Philippines.
The women’s team had 2.5 points to Turkmenistan’s 1.5 while the men’s team lost to Philippines by 3-1 points.
Emdadul Haque and Sheikh Sojib qualified for the final round in the men’s individual archery, scoring 1,275 and 1,250 respectively. Ziaul Haq scored 1,227 and bowed out of the event.
In men’s individual golf final round, Shakhawat Hossain, who was on (+9) at the end of the seventh day, was able to place himself in the 21st position after scoring 299 on the final day.
Mohammad Sayum scored 302, Dulal Hossain scored 310 and Jakir Hossain scored 311 to be placed 29th, 39th and 42nd respectively.
Bangladesh will face Pakistan in their last group match in hockey today.
