BNP will strengthen Mohila Dal at grassroots

BNP Joint Secretary General Abdullah Al Noman on Sunday said that among the reasons of defeat on Dec-ember 29, 2008 national election, is that BNP did not get sufficient votes of women though more than 50 per cent of total voters were women.
“Like other front organisation, we have an organisation named Jatiyotabadi Mohila Dal which works at central level. But there were no activities of the organization as there were no committees at grassroots level. As a result we failed to encourage women voters to cast vote for BNP. Now we will have to concentrate on how we can strengthen the women organisation from field level,” Noman told The Bangladesh Today at Naya Paltan party office yesterday.
Talking about the necessity of student leaders Noman said, “Students organisation should be formed with regular students of colleges and universities. At present, all central leaders of Jatiyo-tabadi Chha-tra Dal have lost their studentship many years ago. As a result current students do not want to follow the old-aged student leaders. So it is high time to reconstitute Chhatra Dal not only at central level but also district and thana levels.”
Grassroots leaders said that the party was defeated in the last year election because of the involvement of Jamaat. When asked the question whether BNP will continue its relationship with Jamaat in future, Noman said, “Standing Committee is the supreme authority of taking any decision of the party. If any decision is taken regarding Jamaat, standing committee would take it.”
“Whether the grassroots leaders hide the real scenario of field level conditions fearing reprisals from central leaders,” Noman replied “No. We have given them assurance to tell the truth.”
Replying to another query whether district and upazilla presidents and secretaries represent the grassroots, Noman said, “It is an ongoing process. We will not stop it. First we are exchanging views and opinions with district and upazilla level presidents and secretaries and we will continue the process with thana and union level leaders.”
