Leftist student organisation Samajtatrik Chhatra Front on Sunday criticised the ruling Awami League government for its alleged ‘negligence’ in rescue work at Savar building
collapse incident that left more than one thousand dead.
‘The government remained callous to ensure safety of labourers,’ said the organisation president, Saifuzzaman Shakon, while addressing a rally at Swaparjitya Swadhinata at Dhaka University.
The organisation held the solidarity rally demanding highest punishment of the perpetrators involved in the building collapse and maximum compensation for the affected families.
Shakon said, ‘The government, in such a critical moment, neither invited experts from disaster-prone countries like Japan or Iran, nor showed its keenness to rescue the labourers trapped inside the building.’
The organisation’s DU unit president, Rashed Shahriar, and general secretary Ruhul Amin, among others, also spoke on the occasion.
