Bangladesh Chhatra Union Dhaka University unit held its 29th council session on Sunday, with a call for resisting the trend of ‘commercial orientation and communalism’ in the education sector.
Freedom fighter Shirin Banu Mitil inaugurated the two-day programme at Aparajeya Bangla of the university, hoisting the national and the organisation flags.Addressing the occasion, she said, ‘The students must unite to materialise the spirit of liberation war — a non-communal and disparity-free society —through education.’
The organisation president, SM Shuvo, said, ‘The university students should play a pivotal role in spreading the light of knowledge to eliminate darkness and inequality in society.’
BCU general secretary Hasan Tareq demanded elections to the vice-chancellor panel, hall unions and central students’ unions to ensure democratic practice on the campuses.
Chhatra Union former central president Ferdous Ahmed Ujjal, its DU unit general secretary Abu Tareq Sohel and council convener Maruf Billah Tanmoy, among others, also addressed the
function, chaired by DU unit president Pinak Roy Pintu.
DU unit leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, Samajtantrik Chhatra Front and Bangladesh Chhatra Federation also attended the occasion.
A cultural programme was held at Raju Memorial Sculpture in the afternoon.
