Chhayanaut artistes brought out a colourful procession on Friday that travelled different roads at Dhanmondi area to celebrate the 50th founding anniversary of the cultural organisation that was formed in 1964 to uphold Banglali nationalism in a time when the Pakistani regime tried to infuse Arabic and Urdu culture.
The participants of the procession rendered timeless songs including Dhano Dhanne Pushpe Bhora, Ebar Tor Mora Gang e Jal Esechhe, Kal Kal Chhal Chhal Nodi Korey Tal Mol, Manush Ho Abar Tora Manush Ho, and others.
The two-day celebrations progremme, however, was opened at the Chhayanut auditorium in Dhanmondi.
The president of Chhayanaut Sanjida Khatun and cultural personality Kamal Lohani delivered speeches.
In her speech titled Prekkhapat Gaan, Sanjida Khatun analysed the influence of music on the people and their life, especially in the national movements of the country such as the language movement in 1952 and the war of independence in 1971.
Kamal Lohani discussed on the role of the cultural organisation, especially Chhayanaut in the national movements.
Leading artistes, who learnt music in Chhayanaut, presented different genres of songs. Top dancers also performed on the opening day of the celebrations programme titled Sobare Kori Ahoban.
The cultural show began with the chorus presentation of inspirational Tagore song Buk Bedhe Tui Dara Dekhi by the artistes of the organisation.
The chorus also entertained the audience presenting timeless Tagore songs such as Jaago Jaago Re Sangeet, Hingsay Unmukto Prithibi and evergreen Nazrul songs like Sabuj Shobhar Dhew Khele Jay and Durgamo Giri Kantar Moru at the programme.
A leading Tagore singer Papiya Sarwar gave a soulful presentation of Tagore’s romantic songs Tumi Kon Kanoner Phul.
Eminent Nazrul singer Khairul Anan Shakil’s spontaneous presentation of folk music based Nazrul song Padmar Dhew Rey entertained the jam-packed audience.
The audience also enjoyed presentation of the former Chhayanaut students, who later became the leading artistes like Iffat Ara Dewan, Shaheen Samad and Laisa Ahmed Lisa, who respectively presented Tagore song Balo Balo Kore Keno, people’s song Ore Bhison Doriyar Dhew and Tagore song Esho Esho Phirey Esho.
Belayed Hossain presented Bharartnatyam dance at the programme.
