Spectacular dance recitals performed by the skilled dancers moved the audience on Friday at the Chhayanaut auditorium.
Al most all genres of classical dance forms practiced by the dancers in the country including kathak, manipuri, bharatnatyam, odissi and goudia had been rendered by the leading and promising artistes at the third annual classical dance festival organised by Chhayanaut.
There was no formal inauguration ceremony. Following the welcome speech delivered by Chhayanaut’s general secretary Khairul Anam Shakil, with coulourful attires the dancers presented kathak, bharatnatyam, manipuri and odissi dance recitals on the opening day.
The show began with Chhayanaut artistes’ presentation of mongalacharan segment of the classical manipuri dance. Through their delicate stances and movements, the dancers delighted the audience while narrating the spirit of the love between Radha and Krishna.
The greatest attraction of the show, however, was noted dancer Munmun Ahmed’s solo recital of a kathak dance sychronised with the bandish of raga malkosh. The crackles of her ghungroos while putting bold but delicate stances by the leading kathak dancer created a unique moment in the evening. Truly, she simply moved the audience with her subtle gestures and postures along with magnificent attire.
Sychronised with the raga malhar, Munmun Ahmed along with her daughter Tabassum Ahmed on behalf of Rewaz Performers School narrated the beauty of the rainy season in their experimental duet dance recital based on kathak titled monsoon melody.
With colourful attires and ornaments, the artistes of Nrityasree gave a spectacular presentation of classical odissi dance. Through the signature stances of odissi, the oldest surviving dance form of India on the basis of archaeological evidences, the dancers created some unique postures of the goddesses as found in the temples.
Popular classical dance form bharatnatyam was rendered by the artistes of Srishty Cultural Centre. Their spontaneous presentation of the ‘krittyanum’ segment of the classical dance form got loud applause from the audience.
