Hundreds of viewers enjoyed a spectacular acrobatic performance on Saturday evening at the National Art Plaza of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. The show has been put together by members of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Circus and Acrobatic Team.
Children who were coached at an acrobatic workshop by BSA’s acrobatic team also had the opportunity to perform at the show. They presented a few acrobatic moves and formed a human pyramid, created the shape of a horse and a flower. Their enthusiastic and lively participation spanning for about half an hour received cheers and applauses from the audience.
The performances of BSA circus and acrobatic team thrilled the huge crowd of spectators who rarely gets an opportunity to experience this type of recital in Dhaka. The artistes, who have been trained at the Acrobatic Training Centre in Rajbari with the support of BSA and cultural affairs ministry, exhibited their skills through group and solo performances.
The show opened with a solo performance called Roller Balance by Kolim. He demonstrated a few incredible balancing techniques as he moved sideways while standing over an ensemble of eight glasses sandwiched between two trays, perched on top of a small roller. His performance stunted the crowd.
Rina Akhter Putul in her solo performance, simultaneously spun three hoops using her arms and legs and succeeded to fascinate the crowd.
The precise moves and sprightly jumps of the team members in group performances and use of hoops, ropes and other props enthralled the audience who expressed their appreciation with a huge round of applauses.
‘It was a complete entertainment and a feast for the eyes. It is a golden opportunity to watch such performances here in Dhaka. The artistes here should be given all kinds of support so that someday we can give tough competitions in the Olympics,’ an overjoyed Himel said.
‘It was a great experience for me to work with the children and I found quite a few talents here who need regular practice in order to move forward in this arena’, said Rina Akhter Putul, the workshop trainer.
‘In our training center we practice regularly but we don’t have any expert trainer. A foreign trainer is absolutely necessary to improve the skills of the team members and should receive due priority from he authority’, she added.
Before the show started, Dr. Gowher Rizvi, advisor to the prime minister, delivered speech.
