Children painted portraits of legendary artists Zainul Abedin, Quamrul Hassan, and SM Sultan and copied their famous artworks in a competition organised by the department of fine arts of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Friday at the plaza of National Art Gallery.
About 60 participants in three age groups participated in the competition. Zainul Abedin and his works were the topics for the participants of Ka group in which primary school students participated. Students from class six to class eight under the Kha group painted portraits of Quamrul Hassan and copied his artworks. SM Sultan and his artworks were the topics for the participants under Ga Group in which schoolchildren from class nine to class ten participated.
The schoolchildren copied famous artworks by the legends such as Cow Cart, Santal Couple, Cow Cart and Two Sisters.
Primary school students Tripti and Diya, form Maddhya Badda, painted Zainul’s portrait and copied Zainul’s famous drawing Cow Cart respectively at the competition.
‘I love painting and I like to participate in art competitions. Despite a rainy day, I insisted mom to come here,’ Trpti told New Age.
The parents also appreciated Shilpakala Academy for organising such event. But, they showed concern for not announcing the results on the day.
‘They told us that the winners will be contacted over telephone, which is disappointing,’ Monzila Hakim, mother of a participant, said.
Four students from each of the three groups will be awarded, said the
organisers.
‘We need to take time for proper selection,’ BSA said an official.
