Normal life disrupted due to fog and cold

The intensity of the cold now sweeping across the country and the capital has led to a sharp fall in temperature with the mercury level dipping low everywhere in 24 hours till Wednesday evening.
The density of fog will continue in Rajshahi, Khulna and Sylhet divisions while Barisal, Chittagong and the southern part of Dhaka division will out of dense fog, so the temperature will be comparatively high in this area of the country, sources in the Met Office told the Bangladesh Today adding the temperature of Tangail, Mymensingh, Jessore, Kushtia, Srimangal, Dhaka, Khulna, and Sylhet district will decline slightly.
“Due to weather disturbance, a chilly weather is now sweeping across the country and this fogy weather will continue for two or three days more. The dense fog may continue. It is not a cold wave rather it is a weather disturbance,” the Met office said adding night temperature may remain nearly unchanged.
With the mercury dipping across the country, people of northern region and char areas are passing bad days. On the other hand, normal life across the country was disrupted on Wednesday due to dense fog as it covered roads, water and air ways. The sky remained overcast with clouds and fog all day long.
Many people, particularly infants and elderly persons, have fallen sick and are being hospitalised with cold related diseases like fever, pneumonia, asthma and other respiratory problems.
Attendance in the educational institutions and offices was very thin and day labourers and farm workers could not work due to extreme cold coupled with drizzles, showers and blowing of winds from the Himalayas.
The capital Dhaka and most areas of the country were covered in a thick blanket of fog on Wednesday affecting navigability and movement of vehicles across the country.
The country’s lowest temperature 12.5 degree Celsius was recorded at Srimangal yesterday. Besides, yesterday the lowest temperature of the six divisions was Dhaka and Chittagong 16.6 degree, Rajshahi 14.5 degree, Khulna 15.4 degree, Barisal 15 degree, and Sylhet 14.3 degree Celsius.
