Chinese acrobats earn big applause from Dhaka crowd

Dhaka audience enjoyed a memorable evening with the performances of the Chinese traditional folk songs, bowl dance, jar balancing and several other eye catching acrobatics.
Artistes of the Inner Mongolia Artist Troupe of China delighted the audience at The National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Monday.
The three-day cultural show, begun on Monday, is organised by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. State minister for cultural affairs Promode Mankin inaugurated the show as chief guest. The Chinese ambassador Zhang Xianyi was present as special guest. Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy’s director general Kamal Lohani delivered the address of welcome. Secretary of the cultural affairs ministry Sharful Alam presided over the opening ceremony.
Promode Mankin said China and Bangladesh have been enjoying warm and friendly relations in many fields including art, culture, health, science and economy. He hoped the relations between the two countries would be further strengthened in the future.
‘This type of cultural programme will enrich the mutual understanding and bilateral relations between China and Bangladesh. These countries share a traditional friendship over hundreds of years,’ Mankin added.
Chinese ambassador to Bangladesh Zhang Xianyi said that the cultural exchanges and cooperation between China and Bangladesh have played a significant role in promoting people-to- people friendship. ‘We have been maintaining the exchanges of visits in art, education, sports, religious and media sectors,’ he added.
The 23-member Inner Mongolian artiste troupe from China performed 13 Mongolian traditional dances, music, and acrobatics at the show and earned big applauses from the hundreds of audiences.
The programme showcased the unique Mongolian performing arts, such as a special throat singing technique combining human voice and musical instruments. The musicians used traditional Mongolian instruments in their performance.
They also performed folk songs in various styles, wearing colourful Mongolian costumes. They presented the Chinese tradition through the songs and dances.
The event started with a chorus and choreography under the title of ‘My homeland- the beautiful Grassland’ depicting the natural beauty of Inner Mongolia. Dance performances including ‘Heroic style of wrestling’, ‘Bowl Dance’, ‘The shepherd’s romantic story’, ‘The soul of the grassland’, ‘Thousands of horses gallop together’ and ‘Cheer from Inner Mongolia’ were outstanding.
The performers also described the daily life of the ethnic people of Inner Mongolia by the performances.
The audience also enjoyed the spellbinding and energetic acrobatic performances of ‘Jar Balancing’ and ‘Revolving the Blanket with Jujitsu’.
The two days’ programmes ended at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Tuesday. The troupe will perform today in Chittagong.
