Family Planning
City areas, slums, remote places lag behind
The government has failed to achieve success in family planning in the city corporation areas, slums and hard to reach areas as the people living in those areas are less interested to use family planning methods, health ministry high officials said on Thursday.
‘Family planning success rate is in the backyard position as education level is very low in those areas,’ said health secretary MM Niaz Uddin.
The hard to reach areas — costal, char, hills, haor and Sylhet and Chittagong district — should be given more emphasise as these areas were in backward positions, he observed.
They were speaking at a press conference organised by the directorate general of family planning at its office on the eve of opening family planning, mother and child health service and campaign week from Saturday.
However, he claimed they had achieved success in the over all family planning in last five years.
DGFP director Ganesh Chandra Sharker said they had taken special programme for the Rohingya people living at Teknaf and Ukhia for counselling them for using family planning methods.
‘We see that about 30 thousand Rohingyas are living permanently there whereas many more are floating people,’ he said, adding that they had set up seven special camps for them.
The theme of the week is ‘Prevent Child Marriage to ensure Women Rights.’ The week was observed twice a year to make people aware.
People would get clinical service for long term and short term permanent method along with counselling and campaign, said MM Niaz Uddin.
DGFP organised different types of programme including traditional cultural programme, especial health camp and counselling programmes, he said.
