Bangladesh Bank on Wednesday said the number of clients of mobile banking service crossed one crore. According to a BB press release, the number of clients of the mobile banking stood at 1.02 crore on November 11, 2013 from 50 lakh in April of this year.
The BB press release said that the mobile banking had achieved rapid popularity as the number of clients of the service increased more than double in seven months.
The number of clients of mobile banking was 89.30 lakh in September and the number increased to 99.80 lakh in October this year.
The BB said that the growth of clients of mobile banking is around 11.79 per cent every month.
The BB introduced the mobile banking in 2010 and it provided no-objection certificates to 28 banks till now to operate the mobile financial services. 19 out of the 28 banks have already introduced the MFS.
The average daily transaction of the mobile banking is Tk 170 crore. The transaction through the mobile banking stood at Tk 5,096 crore in October.
The clients now use mobile banking services for remitting money, withdrawing cash, disbursing salary and for paying the utility bills.
The BB press release said that mobile financial services are now playing a significant role in promoting the central bank’s financial inclusion programmes.
