Six premier division hockey clubs decided to continue their boycott of all hockey activities under the newly-elected Bangladesh Hockey Federation committee led by
general secretary Khaja Rahmatullah, which was elected unopposed.
The six clubs, including Mohammedan Sporting Club and Mariner Youngs Club, met on Friday to discuss their stand.
After the discussion, the clubs issued a press release and declared that they will persist with their boycott and continue to show their lack of faith in the newly-elected committee, which might take charge of the BHF today.
‘The government darkened the country’s hockey by nominating five Abahani-backed councillors unfairly. It was very frustrating. We have decided not to participate in any activities under this committee,’ said Shamsul Bari, vice-president of Ajax Sporting Club
and former general secretary of the BHF.
Nazrul Islam, hockey secretary of Wari Club, also expressed his disappointment with the National Sports Council’s decision.
‘The decision to appoint five councillors from Abahani frustrated us and the other five clubs a great deal,’ said Nazrul after the meeting, which was held in the Mohammedan tent.
