The students of Kadam Mobarak Boys High School at Cheragi in the Chittagong city, run by Chittagong City Corporation, came out of the classrooms as panic spread in the school
after ceiling plaster started coming off on Thursday.
The school authorities decided to suspend all classes on the day and closed the school to avoid casualties in case of any incident of collapse.
Moklesur Rahman, head teacher of the school, said the panicked students came out of the class rooms fearing collapse.
‘Following the incident, we held a meeting with the corporation mayor and decided to suspend classes on Thursday and announced a seven-day holiday. The academic activities of the school would be run at Gul-Ejar Begum Girls High School until the construction of a new building,’ added the head teacher.
The teachers said the academic activities were running in the dilapidated building of the school set up in 1966. The building was also declared risky by the engineers of the corporation.
While visiting the school, it was seen that the school building had developed many cracks in different pillars and ceilings. The plasters were falling off here and there.
