Collection of nomination papers by both the BNP-led 18-party and AL-backed 14-party alliance-backed candidates continued on Monday for the third Barisal City Corporation Election scheduled for June 15. Mujibur Rahman, Khulna regional election commissioner and returning officer for the BCC election, said three nomination paper for mayoral candidates, 60 for general ward councilors and 11 for reserved female ward councilors were distributed from his office till Monday.
Ahsan Habib Kamal, district (south) BNP president and former mayor of BCC, collected nomination paper for mayoral post on Monday.
‘BNP has not yet decided to participate in the elections,’ Kamal said.
Earlier nomination papers for the incumbent mayor and city AL president Shawkat Hossain Hiron and Mahmudur Rahman Khan Mamun, joint secretary of district Juba League, were also collected for mayoral post.
As per the election conduct rule, none could start propagation 21 days ahead of the election date or use colour in poster, banner and it should not be larger than 23”X18”.
But the campaign on behalf of the incumbent mayor and city Awami League president Shawkat Hossain Hiron has already started.
Mahmudur Rahman Khan Mamun, joint secretary of the district Juba League, was also running campaign for the mayoral post since long.
