Gana Forum president Dr Kamal Hossain on Friday expressed his optimism that there is still time to find out a way soon to restore the election-time impartial government to resolve the ongoing political impasse over the forthcoming general polls. Addressing a meeting of newly floated student organisation Oikyabadhya Chhatra Samaj at his Bailey Road residence, he said time is not over since four months are left for holding the next general election.
“Only two minutes are enough to draft the framework of a neutral and interim government and three minutes to pass it in Parliament,” he said.
Dr Kamal said, the people want an acceptable election and to see the next polls be held under a non-partisan government as they cannot keep their trust on the party-government in holding the general elections.
“If a survey is conducted across the country, it will be found that cent percent of the people want neutral government during the general elections. As a democratic leader, the Prime Minister (Hasina) can not ignore this demand,” he observed.
The Gana Forum leader said his party would soon organise a dialogue with politicians and civil society to find out a way to restore neutral government to make
the next parliamentary polls acceptable to all.
“We’ll ask the President to take an initiative to form a polls time neutral government. The President is a veteran politician and I think he can do it,” he added. Dr Kamal urged the students to come forward and get united to remove the ongoing ill-student politics from the country.
“If we can be united with ethics, all things will be possible,” he said.
Nagorik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna also spoke on the occasion.
