Construction workers in Barisal on Wednesday demanded strict enforcement of building construction code with complete insurance. They also demanded that separate wing should be opened for speedy rescue and salvage operation in case of building collapse incidents.
They made the demands in a programme marking May Day.Their other demands also include immediate enlistment and issuance of identity cards, separate pay commission, health and accident insurance, round the year permanent employment or unemployment allowance, free health and education facilities for their children,
accommodation for floating workers, price control of essentials items and implementation of food ration.
Barisal city and district Imarat Nirman Sramik Union organised the programme in front of Barisal Aswani Kumar Hall.
MA Jalil, president of Barisal district INSU, presided over the programme addressed, among others, by AK Azad, central committee member and district secretary of Bangladesh Trade Union Kendra, Rustam Ali, divisional president, Abdur Razak, district secretary, Nigar Sultana Hanufa and other leaders of INSU.
