Contract signed over implementation
The Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority on Thursday signed a contract with consultancy services to implement the 22.4-kilometre Bus Rapid Transit from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to Keraniganj. Under the Clean Air and Sustainable Environment project, the BRT line 3 would be constructed at a cost of about Tk 2,000 crore and implemented by the DTCA.
At the contract signing ceremony held at the Dhaka South City Corporation Nagar Bhaban, communications minister Obaidul Quader said the project would be completed within 2017.
The project also includes construction of two bus depots, 16 stations, two flyovers and 30 underpasses while about 20,000 passengers were expected to pass the BRT corridor, both ways, per hour in peak hour.
The project is being jointly funded by the World Bank.
The minister said already the project’s feasibility study was completed while routes had been franchised and primary design had been finalised.
The work on detail project plan is ongoing, he added.
Obaidul Quader also said he was preparing to resign and would submit his resignation letter within the next Sunday.
CASE project director Mohammad Anisur Rahman, leading Korean consultancy organisation SUNJIN Engineering and Architecture Company Ltd’s chairman Yoo, Sang Chun and associated organisations SHINGSUNG Engineering Company Ltd director Song, Sung Hoon and DONGRIM executive director Jeong, Jae Gyu and senior manager Sung, Sam Hyun signed the Tk 19 crore contract on behalf of their own organisations for detailed engineering design work.
The contract period is 16 months.
Names of the other consultant services are ACE Consultants Ltd and Pathmark.
The BRT corridor is a bus-based mass rapid transit system where the government is planning to run higher occupancy articulated buses along with designated lane, said project officials.
The signing function was attended, among others, by DTCA executive director Mohammad Aftabuddin Talukder and director (administration) Mohammad Amjad Hossain Khan, ACE Consultants Ltd managing director Gholam Mostafa and general manager Mohammad Rafiquzzaman.
