A dry weather, cool crispy air and the fragrance of flowers will herald the advent of spring on Pahela Falgun today. Revellers can look forward to a pleasant day without rains as nature rolls over into the season of romance, finally bidding farewell to the reluctant winter this year.
The young at heart can certainly look forward to a happy Valentine’s Day tomorrow without worrying about drizzles, senior meteorologist Mahmudul Huq told The
Independent yesterday. Huq, however, warned that there was the possibility of rains in a day or two, mostly in the northern part of the country. Notwithstanding the
weather on Thursday, nothing would deter people, especially young women, to dress up to greet the first day of spring.
As usual, girls and women would be decked up in red-bordered yellow saris or salwar kamiz, and the men in yellow punjabis or shirts on the occasion of Poila Falgun.
Meanwhile, florists have set up shops on the Shahbagh pavement and in front of Dhaka University’s Curzon hall opposite the old High Court building, in expectation of
huge sales on Thursday and Friday.
Flower growers at Gadkhali in Jessore have started shipping red roses and tube roses to Dhaka, Chittagong and Khulna. They expect business worth Tk 5 crore on Poila
Falgun and Valentine’s Day.
The National Basant Udjapan Committee has organised a function to celebrate Poila Falgun alongside Rabindra Sarobor at Dhanmondi lake in the morning. It will comprise
music, dances and poetry recitals.
