Bangladesh Copyright and IP Forum on Saturday launched IP Plus to provide creative people with legal support for securing intellectual property right.
‘We will provide the intellectual property holders with legal and consultancy support. We have many creative minds in our country and implementation of the proposed copyright law will help us to boost more innovations,’ said forum’s president Kazi Zahin Hassan at a briefing at the Sonargaon Hotel in the capital.
Asked if implementation of the proposed copyright law will make use of software and foreign books costlier, Zahin said, ‘Not necessarily. Most people use pirated operating system in the computers in our country but there is free operating system available on the internet like Lenux which will help you not to use pirated software,’ he said.
Replying to another question that if there would arise any problem in using legal industrial software after suspension of generalised system of preferences in the US market for the Bangladeshi products, he said there was also free industrial software available in the market.
IP Plus executive director ABM Hamidul Misbah said the creative people were less aware of the legal system and they needed support to make their innovation sustainable.
