Syed Humayun Kabir, an independent candidate vying for the post of a councillor in ward 14 in the Khulna City Corporation elections, has withdrawn from the electoral race in protest at what he claimed ‘distribution of black money’ by his rivals to buy votes.
He made the announcement at a press conference at Khulna Press Club on Monday.
Syed’s withdrawal leaves Sheikh Mofizur Rahman Palash of Awami League, Abul Kalam Azad of BNP and Mosharef Hossain of another AL faction in the race.
Syed alleged that the three had been distributing money among insolvent voters to buy their votes. And if they refuse, they are being threatened, he said.
‘All of them are violating the electoral code of conduct right under the nose of the mobile teams headed by executive magistrates,’ he alleged.
