The Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday fixed the next date on August 21 for hearing on the final report which submitted by police in connection with the case filed by lawmaker Rony.
Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Shariar Mahmud Adnan set the next date for hearing on submitted final report in connection with his case filed against two television journalists.
Police in the final report mentioned that they did not find any evidence in support of ruling party lawmaker Golam Maula Rony’s allegation that two television journalists, whom he had beaten up in his office, attacked and threatened to kill him.
Rony filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station against them on July 20 accusing them of attacking and threatening him with death and trying to extort money from him. He also claimed that the accused had threatened to abduct him if he did not pay the money demanded by them.
Sub-inspector Abu Zafar of Shabagh Bagh police station and also the investigation officer of the case, submitted the probe report to the court of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate in Dhaka stating that charges brought against the three were found to be false and fabricated. They could not find any witness supporting the case.
The IO appealed to the court to discharge them from the charges, insisting that Rony filed the case to divert people’s attention from the incident and also hide the torture of journalists.
On July 20, Rony beat up Imtiaz and Mohsin, members of a team that produces crime investigation show Talash for the Independent TV channel at his Topkhana Road office in the capital.
The IO appealed the court to take action against Rony for filing the ‘false’ case under penal code Section 211.
The criminal lawyer Advocate Sanzib Kumer Shaha mentioned that if the
court accepts the final report the court will have to inform the plaintiff. There is no scope for accepting the final report before the scheduled date.
Earlier on July 21 Rony got bail from the CMM court in the case. Police arrested Rony on July 24 in connection with a case filed by Independent TV for assaulting their two journalists. On July 25, the CMM court sent Rony to Jail rejecting his bail petition.
