The Bangladesh Cricket Board received the final approval from the Prime Minister’s Office to set up a cricket stadium at the Cox’s Bazar golf course, chairman of the BCB’s grounds committee Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan informed a reporter on Thursday.
The prime minister earlier granted authorisation to the BCB verbally as a result of which the highest governing body of cricket in the country decided to go ahead with the construction work of the stadium after getting permission from the civil aviation and tourism minister, Col (retd) Faruk Khan.
The BCB on Wednesday started primary work of building an international stadium and a sports complex but the tourism corporation halted the fencing work at the halfway stage.

then informed the matter to BCB president Nazmul Hasan, who ordered to carry on the work after discussing with the civil aviation and tourism minister, confirmed a source.
A state-of-the-art stadium will be built on 5.66 acres of land with the BCB’s own funds.
The 2014 Women’s World T20 will be held at the Cox’s Bazar stadium. The BCB will initially begin the construction of the stadium with the sports complex scheduled to be built later.
A seven-member International Cricket Council inspection team is now in Sylhet to assess the facilities of the venues. They will travel to Cox’s Bazar on April 21 before checking the venue a day later. Lokman hoped that they will do some works before the ICC inspection team arrives.
