Chittagong Abahani Limited said on Monday that it is willing to host an international club tournament with eight teams next year under the name of Sheikh Kamal. Club president Shamsul Haque Chowdhury disclosed the news while introducing their new football committee chairman Tarafder Mohammad Ruhul Amin at the Bangladesh Football Federation.The club was yet to finalise the participating teams and its schedule but it is expected to be held sometime before or after the Bangabandhu Gold Cup.
‘We are working to find out a suitable time for the tournament,’ he said.
‘We are likely to host the tournament sometime before or after the Bangabandhu Gold Cup next year.’
Chowdhury said their plan is to invite two Indian clubs and one each from Nepal, Bhutan and Sri Lanka alongside two local clubs and Chittagong Abahani for the tournament.
‘We have a plan to host the tournament with eight clubs including two clubs from India, one each from Nepal, Bhutan and Sri Lanka,’ he said.
‘Two top clubs from Bangladesh Premier League and hosts Chittagong Abahani will be the local representatives for the tournament.’
