The administrative big shots of Chittagong University (CU) have apparently failed to find a way out from the deadlock arising out of the siege laid by the-Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), student front of Awami League and its allies on the second consecutive day on Saturday.
Main entrances of the faculty buildings, registrar’s office and different institutes had been under lock and key till the time of dispatching this report on Sunday evening.
The University went under total deadlock yesterday over removal of its Vice-Chancellor Professor M Badiul Alam who allegedly had connivance with the anti-liberation Jamaat-e-Islami and its student front Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS).
BCL Leaders vowed to carry forward their movement to push out what they said corrupt, unfit and extremely biased man from the Vice-Chancellor’s office.
In the meantime, the incumbent Vice-Chancellor of the university Professor M Badiul Alam straightaway ruled out the possibility of quitting his present office until and unless the government formally wanted him to do so.
The Syndicate meeting of the university scheduled for Monday and the ongoing examinations of different faculties have been postponed until next announcement.
Teachers of the university mainly belonging to progressive group have expressed solidarity with the anti-VC’ movement and urged the incumbent VC to tender his resignation as soon as possible for the interest of the congenial academic atmosphere on the campus.
The teachers sat together at the University Club in the city late last night and reviewed the overall situation of the campus and probable consequences of the rigid attitude of the Vice-Chancellor.
On the other hand, workers and supporters of the Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) had been out on the campus with rioting gear. All the dorms of the university and strongholds of the ICS have been alerted for probable confrontation.
The Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) supporters though laid siege on the campus from Saturday; they were apparently against confrontation and bloodshed on the campus.
Heavily armed security forces have been deployed in and around the campus to fend of unpleasant situation.
