A countrywide culinary talent hunt titled ‘Monitor-Malaysian Palm Oil Chef of the Year-2012’ was launched on Wednesday at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the capital.
Travel publication The Bangladesh Monitor has been organising this competition for eight consecutive years while Malaysian Palm Oil Council has joined their hands as the lead sponsor.
The Bangladesh Monitor editor Kazi Wahidul Alam said the main theme of this year’s competition was ‘diversified regional foods of Bangladesh’.
In selecting recipes of the contestants, this aspect will be given special consideration, he added.
‘Besides the cooking competition, a daylong regional food festival will be held on the premises of the grand finale and it will remain open for all without entry fee,’ he informed.
He said the intending contestants were requested to submit their selected recipes within October 15 to the office of The Bangladesh Monitor, City Heart, 67 New Paltan, Dhaka-1000.
‘Contestants will be divided in four zones — Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi and Khulna. 10 contestants from each zone will be initially selected to take part in the zonal competitions to be held in the respective zone and then three winners from each zone will form a team to take part in the grand finale to be held in Dhaka in December 2012,’ Wahidul Alam said.
Out of the four zonal teams taking part in the grand finale, the best two will be declared as champion team and runner–up team and they will be awarded a cash prize of Tk 1 lakh and Tk 50 thousand respectively. For fore information, 01711187638 can be dialled.
