Cultural groups to celebrate Nazrul’s birth anniversaryDifferent cultural organisations will celebrate national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s 115th birth anniversary in a festive manner on Sunday through various programmes including musical shows and fairs.
The day’s greatest celebration programme is being held in Trishal, Mymensingh. The three-day national level programme has been jointly organised by Cultural Affairs Ministry and Mymensingh district administration. The programme at Darirampur Nazrul Mancha in Mymensingh includes colourful rallies, discussions, cultural shows, conglomeration of poets, staging of dramas and dance recitals. Eminent artistes of the country will participate and attend the cultural shows.
The Nazrul Institute has chalked out a three-day programme which will begin today afternoon. The programme will feature an exhibition of photographs, posters and books to introduce the poet to the new generation. Besides, the programme will also include discussion session and presentation of Nazrul songs and poems by noted artistes of the country.
Bangla Academy organised a discussion and cultural programme on Saturday at its Nazrul Stage. Shamsuzzaman Khan, director general of the academy, delivered a speech highlighting life and contributions of the poet. Professor Mohammad Azam, Dr. Hayat Mahmud and professor Farzana Siddique also attended the discussion session.
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy will hold a cultural programme at the National Theatre Hall in the evening today, featuring a discussion session on the contributions of the poet which will be attended by Nazrul researcher Rashid Haider and professor Jillur Rahman Siddique. The discussion session will be followed by a cultural programme where Sujit Mustafa, Khilkhil Kazi, Yakub Ali, Nasima Shahin Fancy, Sumon Chowdhury, Rahat Ara Geeti and others will present Nazrul songs. Cultural organisations Nabochetona, BAFA, and others will present dance recitals at the programme, which will also feature recitation by Syed Hasan Imam, Ahakamullah, Ashraful Alam and Mahmuda Akhter.
Cultural organisations Nazrul Parisad and Bangladesh Nazrul Sangeet Shilpy Sangstha will also celebrate the day with individual programmes. The parisad’s programme will be held at the Music and Dance Centre of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the evening while the sangstha’s show will be held at the Shawkat Osman Auditorium of Central Public Library in the evening. Both the programmes will feature presentation of timeless Nazrul songs by individual artistes and cultural organisations.
Chhayanaut’s two day Nazrul Jayanti celebrations programme began in the evening of Saturday. The day’s programme featured a memorial speech delivered by Siraj Salekin, professor of the Bangla Department of Dhaka University. Salekin, in his speech, talked about the life struggles of Nazrul and also how he overcame all the difficulties and took his intellect to the utmost excellence. The students of the organisation and also artistes from different parts of the country presented beautiful Nazrul numbers in group and solo recital following the discussion session at the programme.
Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC), Dhaka in association with Asian Paints, IRCON and Marico Bangladesh organised an evening of Nazrul songs on Saturday. Eminent Nazrul singer Dr. Pradip Kumar Nandi presented evergreen songs of the poet in solo presentation.
Earlier, IGCC also held a duet concert by noted Nazrul singers Khairul Anam Shakil and Alpona Anam on Friday.
Private channel Channel-i will organise a fair celebrating the day today through a daylong programme on the TV channel’s office premises in Tejgaon. Artistes of cultural organisations such as Sur Saptak, Satyen Sen Shilpagosthi, Ranata Shishukishore Shilpy Gosthi and Talim Shilpagosthi will present chorus at the fair, which will begin at 11:00am and continue till 2:00pm. Dance troupes such as Boitalik, Shur Bihar, Nrittam, Nataraj, Bhorer Pakhi will present dance recitals synchoronised with Nazrul songs. The fair will also feature stalls of handicrafts, toys and foods along with 20 special stalls which will display books, CDs, films and other souvenirs on poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.
