Essence Of Nature
Dancy’s dazzling artworks on display at AFD
The ongoing solo at Alliance Française de Dhaka is NS Chowdhury Dancy’s fifth solo. There are 34 paintings and artworks, in total and in two series, at the exhibition. Dancy does not presume to make her works heavy with thought-provoking, comment-on-society works; rather she is just struck by beauty and has tried to bring that in her works. The two series at the show are Ornament and Essence of nature. The Ornament Series, done in metal, is a new addition to Dancy’s repertoire; while the other series shows Dancy’s obsession with flowers.
The latter series, Essence of Nature, seems to be Dancy’s strong zone, elevating the overall arrangement of the exhibition. Visitors’ eyes will surely be arrested by the dimensions of the works. In mixed media, acrylic, paper, cotton and others, Dancy has created a sort of three dimensional works.
The works also bear influence of murals in which Dancy is quite skilled.
Moreover, Dancy’s quasi-abstract treatment of the flowers, clever and expanded use of colours makes the impression that the artist is more interested to paint the fragrance than the flowers.
In the Ornament series, it is not just the ear-rings, necklace or bangles that attract eyes, but the faces, in a bit triangular shapes, look like the faces that are found in traditional patachitra.
Inaugurated on September 16, the exhibition will be open for all till September 29.
