The noted Indian artist Omkar Dardarkar presented classical ragas in vocal rendition at a solo musical programme organised by Shadhona Cultural Circle for its members at a residential house in Gulshan on Monday.
Presented in bilambit ek taal, Dardarkar’s presentation of raga miyaman began with alap as small notes; the recital gradually rose to fast and elaborate narration ‘bistar’ that equally accelerated the heartbeat of the listeners.Dardarkar started the raga with hymn accompanied with mild tone of harmonium. The sound of tabla joined later giving the performance a complete facade and enchanting the audiences.
The next performance of Dardarkar was a traditional Bandish in tin taal. The melodic composition in the enchanting voice of the artist projected a vigorous, yet dramatic, expression which shattered the silence of the night.
Omkar Dardarkar was accompanied by the noted Indian instrumentalist Sanjay Adhikari on tabla and a local musician Shakur on Harmonium.
Before beginning his performance, the artist surprised the audiences with his fluent Bangla saying that he was pleased to present the classical music and Bangladesh at the same time.
Born in Mumbai on 30th July 1977, Omkar Dardarkar was enthused by his parents, both being Marathi Natya and Sangeet performer. He took his initial training under Shri Ram Deshpande and received a scholarship from Center for Cultural Resources and Training in New Delhi. Being selected as a scholar by ITC Sangeet Research Academy in 1999, he had undergone rigorous training under the tutelage of Guru Pt.Ulhas Kashalkar. Dardarkar has performed in the cities of New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Kanpur, Lucknow, and even beyond the borders like in Canada and Bangladesh.
