Dakkhin Asia Sahitya Sangskriti Parishad has honoured 27 individuals with Mother Teresa Award for their contribution to their respective fields including literature, education, social work and peace.
Dhaka University vice-chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique handed over the awards at a ceremony presided over by Awami League’s presidium member Yusuf Hossain Humayun at the National Press Club.
The award recipients include National Professor Nurul Islam for his contribution to medical and social service, Jatindra Lal Tripura and journalist AKM Maqsud Ahmed for working to establish peace in the Chittagong Hill Tracks, and Chowdhury Ataur Rahman Rana for upholding the culture of ethnic minorities through poems.
