The Deputy Commissioners (DCs) will as usual discharge duties of returning officers in the next general election, election commissioner Md Shahnewaz said.
He also said that the commission will amend the “code of conduct” of candidates based on the framework of poll-time government. “According to the Election Commission sources the EC is working on the issue, we are reviewing different international laws in this regard,” Shahnewaz added.
He made these comments while talking with the reporters at the commission’s office Monday noon.
Commissioner Shahnewaz said the commission plans to maintain all previous laws and rules in the code of conduct to avoid further confusion.
“We will maintain continuity of the previous commission and will not be adding anything new. However, we will appoint only those as returning officers who are known as non-partisan and will be able to discharge their duties neutrally,” Shahnewaz said.
He also commented optimistically that the final voter list would be error-free.
