The Rajuk authorities on Wednesday extended to January 15 the December 18 deadline for submission of the applications for the plots of Rajuk’s Uttara and Purbachal projects in Dhaka.
‘We have decided to extend the deadline following requests from various quarters for filing the applications for the plots,’ housing and public works secretary, ASM Rashidul Hai told a press briefing at his office.
The decision came when thousands of applicants on Wednesday, a day before the deadline, stood in long queues on the premises of the selected banks in the city. Many of the applicants were seen queuing up on the main streets.
‘We did not expect so many people would apply for Rajuk plots and face such harassments…We have received requests from the Bangladesh missions abroad and the expatriates to extend the deadline,’ the secretary said citing the reason for extending the deadline.
The chairman of the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha, Md Shafiqul Islam was also present, among others, at the briefing.
People got an inadequate time to complete the lengthy procedure of submitting the applications for the plots as application forms were made available from November 30 with the December 18 fixed as deadline. There were also public holidays on the occasions of Eid-ul Azha and the Victory Day in between.
An applicant has to enclose the salary statement, tax identification number, income tax return certificate, a photocopy of the national identity card, an affidavit and a bank draft/pay order with the application form.
Earlier on Monday, the authorities relaxed the provision for submitting the affidavit using Tk 150 non-judicial stamps. The applicants were now asked to pay Tk 150 as court fee instead of the non-judicial stamps for their affidavits.
Rajuk made the decision at a time when the applicants had only two working days in their hands for submitting the applications before the deadline while the applicants had to count Tk 1,000 for each of the Tk 150-stamps as a section of vendors were cashing in on the demand of the stamps.
Many applicants meanwhile have expressed their dissatisfaction with Rajuk’s delay in making the decisions, which have caused sufferings to them.
Bangladeshi expatriates willing to apply for the Rajuk plots have reportedly alleged that the application process was made cumbersome deliberately to keep them out of the lottery.
Hundreds of Bangladeshi expatriates intending to apply for the plots were seen flocking to the Rajuk’s member estate’s office in Dhaka to know how the application should be submitted.
Rajuk invited applications for the Purbachal New Town Project with nearly 7,000 plots and Uttara (third phase) project with some 1,500 plots.
The authorities would fix the price of the land in the projects in a week and complete the lottery within the maximum time of 60 days after the application deadline would expire, the housing and public works secretary said, adding that those who would not get the plot would be asked to withdraw the deposit within 30 days.
