Most of the dealers under Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) in the district have stopped selling non-urea fertilizers following agriculture ministry’s declaration about subsidy on them.
Farmers at different places in the districts said they are not getting Triple Super Phosphate, Di-amonia and Mutate of Potash, which are most essential during preparation of land for Boro cultivation.
Although the dealers have sufficient stock of non-urea fertilizers, the dealers have refrained from selling them with a view to manipulating the stock to gain subsidy money, sources said.
The BCIC dealers at the upazila level, however, said they stopped selling of non-urea fertilisers because they did not get any written instruction from the District Fertilizer Monitoring Committee.
Rangpur Agriculture Extension Department (AED) Deputy Director Hazrat Ali, who is also the Secretary General of District Fertilizer Monitoring Committee, said, they held a meeting with the BCIC dealers of the district on December 15 and asked them to sell TSP at Tk 40 per kg, MoP at Tk 35 per kg and DAP at Tk 45 per kg.
Asked, if any written order was issued to the dealers, the DD said they gave the agriculture ministry circular to the president of Rangpur Fertilizer Association to convey the message to all dealers.
The official, however, could not give any specific information about the stock of non-urea fertilisers lying with the BCIC dealers in the district.
A few dealers of Rangpur Sadar upazila were found selling MoP, TSP and DAP at the subsidized rate.
“Although I did not get any written direction but I am selling non-urea fertilizers at the subsidized rates,” said Abul Kashem of Nabdiganj, proprietor of Patwari Fertilizer.
