A Dhaka court on Tuesday dismissed a defamation case filed against Amar Desh acting editor Mahmudur Rahman and two others by Prime Minister’s energy adviser Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury. Acting Judge Alamgir Kabir of the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court-3 passed the order citing that the complainant has no interest in the case as he remained absent at the court for 13 times.
Lawyer for the accused Belal Hossain told UNB that the complainant appeared before the court only for once after the case was filed in 2010.
He said with the case, two cases filed against the Amar Desh have been dismissed.
On January 19, 2010, Tawfiq-e-Elahi filed the case against Mahmudur Rahman, Amar Desh publisher Hasmat Ali and reporter M Abdullah on charge of tarnishing his image.
