Sixteen artists deal with various issues in their delicate wood engraving works known as xylography in a group exhibition on display at
the Gallery Cosmos 2 in Mohakhali.
The 10-day exhibition features 44 wood engraving prints done by the participants of a printmaking workshop conducted by artist professor Amirul Momanin Chowdhury organised by the gallery at Cosmos Atelier 71 Printmaking Studio.
The show also features Biren Shome’s two spectacular watercolour screen prints titled Woman and Woman with Bird featuring the serene natural beauty of a woman and a woman’s friendly relation with a bird.
The delicate curved lines of the wood engravings by the participating xylographers are eye-catching and plaudit-deserving.
The workshop conductor artist Amirul Momanin Chowdhury participated in the exhibition with a solo work titled Angry Pig and a series work. The solo work depicts a black pig rubbing its head angrily on mud. The most attractive aspect of the xylography is the texture created through delicate lines by Chowdhury.
The fourth xylograph of his series titled As It Appears, on the other hand, portrays the portrait of a woman whose emotion-laden face is prominent.
‘I thank the organisers for arranging such workshop and exhibition as many of the displayed works have great artistic values,’ said artist Amirul Momanin Chowdhury, the workshop conductor.
Lutfun Nahar Liza’s woodcut print Waiting is also catchy piece. In it, Liza has shown a woman combing her hair and looking sidewise as if she is waiting for her husband to come.
Azadi Parvin’s untitled work depicting a stormy ambiance is very attractive. A hyena in a ferocious posture with two vultures hovering above is seen in the piece.
Among other captivating works are Lamia Azad’s Jol Kumari, Tania Sultana Bristy’s Mask, Mehedi Hasan’s Couple and some others.
Other participants at the show are Afrozaa Jamil Konka, Altafunnesa Rita, Emdadul Hoque Topu, Iffat Newaz Tamanna, Musfique Akhtar, Mehedi Hasan, Nadira Akhter, Rahima Afroz, Raisa Akhtar Maniza, Sadia Sultana Bony, Samaun Hasan and Sourav Chowdhury.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Jon F Danilowicz, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of the United States of America in Bangladesh, on October 25, and will be open for all from 11am to 7pm till November 05.
