An on-going painting exhibition titled The Silent Word of the young artist Shabekun Nahar Noushin is taking place at the Galerie Zoom of Alliance Francaise de Dahaka.
The title itself is specially designed to hint the fact that the artist is not gifted with the natural human abilities of speaking and listening. But she has found out her way of communicating through the exquisite gift of making her brushes speak for her. The exhibition, being Noushin’s debut solo exhibition, showcases fifteen watercolour paintings done by the artist.
The artworks portray different themes of nature, beauty of Bengali women and human emotions through the artist’s silent way of using bold colours.
There are sheer portrayals of scenic beauty of nature in two artworks. Noushin’s presentation of nature in watercolour is sure to have a calm and soothing effect on any audience.
Two other works by the artist are the portrayals of fairytales on canvas. In one, a painted fairy is hovering over three conjurers conjuring the fairy. Noushin has used vibrant colours from azure blue to reddish brown, from white to beige black in order to create the ambiance of fairytale.
Other eye-catching artworks include a painting of a horse with a few Bedouin men lying around giving it a fairytale effect set against the dessert backdrop. Another piece where Noushin has painted three female faces depicting the beauty of women shows the artist’s skill in painting intricate details.
The exhibition was inaugurated jointly by Olivier Litvine, director of AFD; Nasreen Begum, professor department of oriental art at FFA of Dhaka University; and Musa Ibrahim, the first Bangladeshi Mount Everest conqueror; on October 23 and will remain open for all till November 07.
