Awami League lawmaker Mizanur Rahman Khan Dipu of Dhaka-6 constituency died at Apollo Hospitals in the city on Saturday. He was 49.
Doctors declared Mizanur Rahman dead after he was brought to the hospital around 6:59 am, said Aminur Rahman, duty manager of the hospital. Another source at the hospital said he died of brain haemorrhage. The first namaz-e-janaza for Awami League lawmaker Mizanur Rahman Khan Dipu was held on the South Palza premises of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban at Saturday noon.
Before the namaz-e-janaza, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina placed wreaths on his coffin. His second namaz-e-janaza was held at Dhaka National Medical College Hospital and another namaz-e-janaza was held at Dhupkhola ground in city’s Ganderia area. Later, he was buried at Jurain Graveyard around 4 pm.
Meanwhile, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock at the death of Dipu.
In a condolence message Abdul Hamid said the nation has lost a promising lawmaker through his demise. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said “The country has lost a dedicated and patriotic politician. His death is an irreparable loss for the politics of the country as well as Bangladesh Awami League,” she said.
Dipu was elected MP from Dhaka-6 constituency in 2008 and was also in the race for the same seat in the upcoming 10th parliamentary election.
