Bangladesh has condemned the continued Israeli attacks on Gaza as flagrant violation of human rights and international humanitarian laws.
‘The Israeli atrocities are mediaeval carnage in modern times,’ said Bangladesh’s permanent representative to the UN Office in Geneva, Debapriya Bhattacharya.
He said this while addressing a special session of the Human Rights Council on Friday arranged to discuss the situation in the occupied territories of Palestine.
The special HRC session was organised by Bangladesh along with the Non-aligned Movement, Organisation of Islamic Countries, African and Arab Groups, according to a message received in Dhaka on Saturday.
Debapriya informed the HR council that the newly-elected prime minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, in her initial statements had strongly condemned the atrocities unleashed by Israel on Palestinian people.
The prime minister has demanded immediate cessation of the Israeli hostilities, Debapriya said quoting Hasina’s statements.
Bangladesh also called for unhindered supply of emergency humanitarian necessities in Gaza.
The Bangladesh ambassador demanded immediate implementation of the recently adopted resolution on the Mideast conflict at the UN Security Council.
He also stressed that international community needs to ensure adequate flow of humanitarian and developmental assistance soon after a ceasefire comes into effect.
More than 800 civilians including women and children have been killed in Gaga by Israeli attacks in the last few days.
