DHAKA: Bangladesh is all set to show a glimpse of its class and can-do attitude towards the rest of the world as the country has completed all preparations to hold the inaugural ceremony of the cricket’s biggest extravaganza ICC Cricket World Cup.
The opening ceremony of the World Cup cricket, called the third biggest sporting event, will be held on Thursday at Bangabandhu National Stadium(BNS).
The showpiece event which Bangladesh will organise for the first time will be staged with calisthenics mixed with dance, drama, music and laser show that is expected to make the whole nation spellbound. Sources said there will be nothing lacking in the amazing opening show that will depict Bangladesh’s long history chronologically and end with a shiny and blitzkrieg laser show.
The spectacular opening ceremony will be marked by great fanfare and enthusiasm. A spectacular cultural show, a scintillating aquatic display is expected to grip the audience while the dazzling pyrotechniques will lit up the night sky of Dhaka to bring up the perfect ending to a 135-minute spectacle.
The spectacular show is expected to begin at 5.50 pm. Prior to the main event, a pre-show of 55 minutes will begin at 4.55 pm. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to declare the meet open.
Apart from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Canada and England, rest of the ten countries’ captains are expected to arrive here Wednesday morning by a chartered flight from India to join in the opening ceremony of the ICC Cricket World Cup to be staged in the evening. The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the ICC Cricket World Cup and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed the arrival of the celebrities who will render something special to mark the spectacular ceremony albeit they were playing hide and seek game about disclosing the names of the celebrities from India and Bangladesh.
But a LOC source assured that the cultural show of three host countries, Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka would be rendered by the performers from the respective countries.
Most of the performers from India and Sri Lanka have already reached here while the singers from abroad will come by Tuesday night.
Meanwhile, the Indian team, who are scheduled to play the opening match of the World Cup on February 19 is also expected to arrive on Wednesday by a chartered flight.
The grand 30 million US dollar inaugural show is being organised jointly by International Cricket Conference (ICC) and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). ICC appointed Wiz Craft and local Ad-firm Bangladesh Asiatic Events are jointly co-hosting the mesmerizing opening show.
ICC would provide additional one lakh US dollars each day for hosting the eight matches in Bangladesh. This fund includes expenses of players, coaches, officials, physio, match referee, umpires and ICC officials.
The pre-show will begin at 4.55 with four female and four male singers rendering a song to herald the evening with a promise of more to follow.
The main event will start with the arrival of Prime Minister and other VVIPs.
