Pro-Bangladesh Nationalist Party ‘White Panel’ teachers of Dhaka University on Friday demanded unconditional release of the daily Amardesh acting editor, Mahmudur Rahman.
The opposition-backed teachers’ panel convener Sadrul Amin in a
written statement on the day made the demandand condemned the
arrest and remand of Mahmudur.
The teachers criticised the ruling Awami League-led government for ‘being intolerant of the mass media.’
They also demanded opening of the daily
Amardesh and allowing broadcasting of the
Islamic Television and Diganta TV.
A metropolitan magistrate court granted a
fresh three-day remand for Mahmudur on June 12 in a case filed against Mahmudur with Ramna police
station on February 22, 2013, on charges of vandalism, obstructing police from performing duty, blasting crude bombs and spreading religious extremism.
