Dinajpur clinched the Walton Hill Tracts hockey tournament on Tuesday after outclassing Bandarban by 5-2 in the final at the Maulana Bhashani Hockey Stadium.
Defending champions Dinjapur secured their second Hill Tracts hockey title in the competition’s third edition against Bandarban, who have been the runners-up on all three occasions since the tournament’s inauguration in 2004.
Sukesh Murmu bagged a brace for Dinajpur while Hridoy Murmu, Subrata Chandra Roy and Porimol Madi scored one goal apiece. Saddam Hossain attained both the goals for Bandarban.
Bangladesh Olympic Association vice-president Harunur Rashid was the chief guest of the programme along with Khawaja Rahamatullah, general secretary of the Bangladesh Hockey Federation and they distributed prizes among the winning team and runners-up side.
Dinajpur’s Sukesh was adjudged the player of the tournament.
Tournament sponsor Walton awarded trophies and LCD televisions to both the teams while the development committee rewarded the players with wooden hockey sticks as memento.
