A Dhaka Court yesterday placed actor and Dhaka City Corporation Councillor Monwar Hossain Dipjol on a one-day remand in connection with a case filed for assaulting a traffic police constable on November 16 in the city’s Gabtoli area.
Metropolitan Magistrate SK Tofail Hassan passed the order after Darussalam police produced Dipjol before it with a five-day remand prayer.
The court also rejected a bail petition submitted by Dipjol’s lawyer.
In the forwarding report, the investigation officer (IO) of the case mentioned that Dipjol was directly involved with assaulting Aftab Uddin, the police constable, on November 16 while he protested against violation of traffic rules by the DCC ward councillor.
He needs to be remanded to gather vital clues about the incident and to know the whereabouts of his accomplices, said the IO.
Moreover, at least a dozen of cases filed against him are pending with different courts, he added.
Dipjol, who went into hiding to elude arrest in this case, surrendered to police on November 28.
Earlier, Darussalam police on November 21 appealed to the deputy commissioner of Dhaka for cancellation of the licence of Dipjol’s firearms that include a single and a double-barrel shotguns, a pistol, and a rifle.
On November 30, the same court sent Dipjol to jail fixing yesterday for hearing on the five-day remand prayer.
Dipjol has already been awarded 45 years’ imprisonment in absentia on different charges including possessing illegal firearms and ammunition and acquiring wealth through illegal means.
