A nine-day professional development discourse on ‘Technological Innovation in Organisations’, organised by the Bangladesh Institute of Management (BIM), ended on Saturday at its Dhaka premises. Industries Secretary Mohammad Moinuddin Abdullah attended the closing ceremony of the discourse as the chief guest, while BIM director general Khandaker Rakibur Rahman presided over the function. Describing the discourse as very timely and most appropriate, the Industries Secretary in his address said that technological innovation is hugely important as through its application it is possible to achieve cutting edge economic value creation, continuous productivity improvement and sustainable competitiveness. “Technological innovation can be used as the most effective tool to transform Bangladesh into a middle-income country,” he added.
Moinuddin Abdullah further observed that despite having many talented and knowledgeable persons, the country is lagging behind in innovation for lack of policy support. Hailing Professor Nawaz Sharif as a pioneer in technological innovation in the world, the Industries Secretary appreciated his keen interest and concern in empowering the actors in the field.
The Secretary urged Prof Sharif to continue conducting such discourses in future which should also be designed for those at the top policymaking level in order to hammer home the message. The BIM director general in his speech pointed out that the event was a landmark in the history of BIM training programmes, assuring that such programmes will be replicated in the future.
The discourse resource person, Prof Sharif, in his concluding remarks stressed that there should be increased collaboration among the three stakeholders viz. science and technology (S&T), research and development (R&D) and commerce and industries (C&I) communities for attaining innovation driven global market competitiveness of Bangladeshi goods and services.
A number of participants who spoke at the ceremony observed that the discourse equipped them with relevant knowledge for being innovative that will help them contribute to the development of their respective organisations ultimately leading to the country’s overall economic prosperity.
