A discussion programme highlighting the 2014 Nobel Laureate for literature, Patrick Modiano was held on Thursday at the auditorium of Alliance Française de Dhaka located at Dhanmondi. The programme was jointly organised by Writer’s Association of Bangladesh (WRAB) and Alliance Française de Dhaka. The intention of the programme, shared the organisers, was to introduce Patrick Modiano and his writings to the local readers.
Dr Mizanur Rahman, chairman of National Human Rights Commission, was present at the programme as the chief guest; while Samsuzzaman Khan, director general of Bangla Academy and Nurul Karim Nasim, academic and writer were present respectively as special guest and keynote speaker. The session was chaired by Dr Mizanur Rahman Shelley, chairman CCRD.
Nurul Karim Nasim, in his keynote speech, talked about the works of Modiano and his writing style.
In his speech, Dr Mizanur Rahman focused on how humanity was intertwined with, and reflected in Modiano’s writings; and how his depictions are similar to that of other writers.
Samsuzzaman Khan stressed that Modiano’s major writings should be immediately be available to local audience in English and Bangla translations.
Dr Mizanur Rahman Shelley ended the session saying that Modiano’s works, by exposing the human condition, has a universal appeal.
Director of Alliance Française, Bruno Plasse displayed the new books that have arrived at the institution’s library and the electronic books which are also available on their kindle device.
Finally the programme ended with a video interview of Modiano speaking about one of his books which was shown via a projector.
