The fortnight-long Barisal divisional tree fair started on
Bangabandhu Udyan premises of the city Sunday.
The fair was aimed at raising awareness of tree plantation
and social forestation in the region.Talukder Md Yunus, Awami League lawmaker, inaugurated the fair as chief guest and Shohidul Alam, deputy commissioner of Barisal, presided over the inauguration ceremony.
Khondokar Sirajul Karim, additional director, the Directorate of Agricultural Extension, Dewan Zafrul Hasan, divisional forest conservator, AKM Ehsanullah, district superintendent of police also attended the programme.
Different organisations and institutions along with private nursery owners opened more than fifty stalls in the fair, which remains open daily from 8:00am to 8:00pm and will continue till July 22.
After the inauguration, tree-loving people rushed to the fair to buy saplings and seeds.
