The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) will conduct a special drive from Friday midnight to hunt down criminals in the capital.
The decision of launching the special drive came within five days of another drive that continued from February 3-7.
The special drive against the criminals comes in the wake of success of the previous drive.
Talking to reporters Friday afternoon at a function marking the DMP’s 34th founding anniversary at the DMP headquarters, Police Commissioner Naim Ahmed said the law enforcing agencies arrested a number of criminals, including killers, muggers and members of organized gangs like ‘malam’ party and ‘aggyan’ party, during the earlier drive.
Asked about the ongoing drive against car lifting, he said the number of car lifting incidents has dropped substantially.
The DMP commissioner, however, advised the car owners that before appointing a driver they should verify his identity and also supply a copy of his bio-data to the local police station.
Home Minister Advocate Sahara Khatun was the chief guest at the function, attended by Home Secretary Abdul Karim, Inspector General of Police Nur Mohammad, former IGPs and senior police officials.
Addressing the function, Home Minister Sahara Khatun asked the police to work sincerely and with dedication to combat crime.
