Dhaka North City Corporation will announce its budget for 2013-14 fiscal year today.
In the outgoing fiscal year, DNCC had taken a Tk 1966.285 crore budget.
Dhaka South City Corporation is scheduled to announce its budget tomorrow. It had taken a Tk 1781.68 crore budget in 2012-13 fiscal year. Both of the city corporations said that they would seek more grants from
the government in the coming fiscal year as their budgets would be bigger than that of the outgoing fiscal year.
The DNCC would demand greater allocations from the government to meet development expenses, said a senior official.
Last year, he said, DNCC did not get Tk 889.80 crore it had sought from the government for development projects.
The official said that DNCC would seek the same fund for the coming fiscal year also. He
said that the DNCC also did not get Tk 55 crore for its private-public partnership projects as the government did not approve the funds.
DSCC would not raise the holding tax or other rates, said an officer. In 2012-13, DSCC raised
the holding tax by 10 per cent.
In 2010-11, the undivided Dhaka City Corporation had taken a Tk 2,715 crore budget.
Though the budgets of DSCC and DNCC in 2012-13 put together was about 73 per cent higher than the budget of undivided DCC for 2008-09 the residents of Dhaka saw no
improvement in the services of the two civic bodies, the city dwellers complained.
In December 2011,
the government split Dhaka City Corporation and created DNCC and
DSCC.
