Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has taken the initiative to provide birth registration to citizens from its councillor offices, instead of its zonal offices, to reduce public suffering and make the process easier.
A final summery of the initiative was sent to the Local Government and Rural Development and Co-operative ministry for final approval, said a press release of the DNCC on Sunday.
Dhaka North City mayor Atiqul Islam said that if they received final approval, local ward councillor would be the registrar and ward secretary would be the assistant registrar for issuing the birth certificates.
‘No one will have to go to the zone offices,’ said Atiqul, who revealed the information while chairing the 18th corporation meeting.
People have to collect birth certificates from zone offices after completing application and they have to suffer slightly, he said, adding that the decision was taken considering the people’s sufferings.
DNCC chief executive officer Selim Reza, among others, was present at the meeting.
