Finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith on Wednesday said development of a country largely depended on its capacity of domestic manufacturing.
So, he said, his government has taken special initiatives including giving tax incentives to the local manufacturers for boosting the industrial sector of the country.‘Utilising the government facilities the local manufacturers including Runner Automobiles Limited and Walton have made huge achievements in the last four and half years in fulfilling the domestic demand for motorbikes as well as increasing their capacity to export their products,’ Muhith said.
The finance minister made the remarks while visiting motorcycle manufacturing factory of Runner Automobiles Limited, a flagship company of Runner Group, at Bhaluka in Mymensingh.
Local lawmakers M Amanullah and Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, National Board of Revenue member Md Bashir Uddin, Runner Automobiles chairman Hafizur Rahman Khan, vice-chairman Md Mojammel Hossain, managing director Shafikuzzaman and directors were presence, among others, during the visit.
‘The local entrepreneurs like Runner Group have been playing significant role in boosting the automobile industry as well as reducing the dependence of import of automobiles,’ Muhith said.
The finance minister praised the manufacturing environment and quality production of motorcycles in Runner Automobiles factory and expressed his hope that the manufacturer would be able to increase its capacity of producing 1,000 motorcycles from its present 500 a day soon by maintaining quality.
Hafizur Rahman Khan said in the last 10 years his company had invested a large amount of capital to introduce complete set of advanced production technology and equipment.
RAL’s products cover four series of motorcycles ranging from 50cc to 150cc and about 12 models of motorcycles, he said.
At present, the RAL has more than 200 dealers and over 400 sales centres across the country.
The company claimed that the RAL is selling the highest quantity of motorcycles on the domestic market as a manufacturer and also the market leader of 80cc motorcycle.
